The Asbury Park Museum is bringing the film to the ShowRoom Cinema, Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park on Thursday, May 23 at 7 PM. Asbury Park Museum President, Kay Harris, is inviting everyone to come out for an enjoyable evening and to support the Museum.

It tells the story of Asbury Park, a city long troubled by social tensions, and how the power of music can unite a divided community.

The film is a 2019 documentary. According to Director Tom Jones, “It tells the story of Asbury Park, a city long troubled by social tensions, and how the power of music can unite a divided community. In July 1970, the city erupted in flames during a summer of civil unrest, crippling the town for the next 45 years. In the city, divided by a set of railroad tracks, the riot destroyed the historic West Side jazz music scene, but from the flames of the burning city emerged the iconic Jersey sound.”

Tickets are $25.00 and must be purchased in advance online at https://apmfilm.eventbrite.com. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the film begins at 7. Seating is limited, so get your tickets now. After the film, come upstairs and join us for the Q&A session, not only with Tom Jones, but also lifelong Asbury Park residents and brothers, Dorian Parreott and Reverend David Parreott Jr. Dorian himself is a musician who has played from the West Side to the East Side of Asbury Park for decades. And local musician Vini Lopez, who is also in the film, will be stopping by.
